Green bonds

Since April 2017 Trust in Debt has the observer status with respect to the Green Bonds Principles (“GBP”) of the International Capital Markets Association. These GBP contain process-related guidelines to which issuers are subject while promoting transparency and disclosure of relevant information.

The GBP have four core components:

  1. Use of Proceeds
  2. Process for Project Evaluation and Selection
  3. Management of Proceeds
  4. Reporting

As regards the first key element, the GBP refer to bond issues that are focussing on:

    • renewable energy
    • energy efficiency
    • pollution prevention and control
    • environmentally sustainable management of living natural resources and land use
    • terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity conservation
    • clean transportation
    • sustainable water and wastewater management
    • climate change adaptation
    • eco-efficient and/or circular economy adapted products, production technologies and processes
    • green buildings

The GBP value an external review with respect to the compliance by the issuer with the GBP. Upon request Trust in Debt can perform this external review.

Trust in Debt promotes the expansion of the “green investment” category under the Dutch Income Tax Act 2001 to the effect that way persons who invest in bonds that comply with the GBP will have the applicable tax benefits.
